Abstract
The oxidation of sodium hyponitrite and sodium oxyhyponitrite with dinitrogen tetroxide has been re-examined. In contrast to earlier work, no evidence was found for the existence of anions of the type N2Ox 2– where x has a value between 3 and 6. It was concluded that the only products were nitrite and nitrate. The reaction between sodium nitrosyl and dinitrogen tetroxide has been investigated.
