Abstract
Describes the general characteristics of a neutron inelastic spectrometer using a resonance detector. The object is to have an instrument which may be used for energy transfer ( epsilon ) values of the order of 1 eV. Accessible momentum transfer (Q) regions are discussed together with epsilon and Q resolutions. Three general types of experiment are considered and counting times estimated for both electron accelerator (LINAC) and proton spallation (SNS) sources of neutrons.Keywords
