Abstract
Moss samples from a range of forest, shrub, herb, and mire communities on Mt Egmont were pollen analysed. Major plant communities could be distinguished by their characteristic pollen spectra, but minor variations in the plant cover were more difficult to recognise. This was particularly true of the mire communities of the Ahukawakawa Swamp which tend to be dominated by pollen from shrubland and forest. Much of this pollen is likely to have been transported by water from the surrounding mountain slopes. Keywords
