Abstract
Physician-assisted suicide and active euthanasia are topics of contentious debate in Michigan. After Dr. Jack Kevorkian assisted in a number of highly publicized suicides, the state legislature established the Michigan Commission on Death and Dying to study the issue and recommend legislation. The legislature also banned assisted suicide beginning in February 19931-3. The ban has been challenged in court, and in any event the law requiring it expires at the end of 1994.Keywords
