Abstract
Based on the normal vibration calculation of the trans and the gauche molecules of 1,2‐dichloroethane as an eight‐body problem, the assignments of the Raman and infrared frequencies of this substance observed in the gaseous, liquid, and solid states have been made. The vibrational modes of these frequencies have been discussed. Keywords
