Plate tectonics is the dominant process behind the creation and decomposition of the crust and the uppermost part of Earth9s mantle (the lithosphere). Did plate tectonic processes also operate on the early Earth? In her Perspective, van der Lee reviews the evidence from Laurentia, the predecessor of the North American continent. Keywords
