Abstract
THE assessment of myelopoiesis, both quantitatively and qualitatively, is one of the most important measurements in clinical medicine. A complete blood count is obtained routinely in the course of a physical examination of the patient to appraise the function and state of one of the organs of the body, the bone marrow. It is not usually appreciated that the bone marrow is one of the largest organs, approximating the size and weight of the liver, and that it is one of the most active, producing great numbers of new cells, particularly myeloid elements.
