THERMAL TRANSPORT MECHANISMS IN NUCLEATE POOL BOILING OF HIGHLY-WETTING LIQUIDS

Abstract
In the isolated bubble regime of nucleate pool boiling, the heat transferred from an active bubble site can be related to the latent heat associated with vaporizing the bubble, sensible heat in the wake of the bubble and sensible heat in the liquid which surrounds the bubble and is circulated by density (natural convection) and surface tension gradients (Marangoni convection). In the present study, the contribution from each mechanism to the overall heat dissipation in nucleate pool boiling is evaluated and the dominant mechanism is identified.
