Abstract
Capacity factors of phenylalkylammonium and phenylammonium ions are linearly related to the reciprocal of the mobile phase eluent cation concentration for methanol-water mobile phases on a silica-based octadecyl column. Intercepts of these curves are considered to be capacity factors for pure reversed-phase interaction. Slopes of the curves are used to measure ion exchange tendency. The results indicate that ion exchange is aided by solvophobicity of the eluite. Keywords
