Abstract
Carbon dioxide as a stimulant and attractant for certain bloodsucking arthropods is well documented in the literature. Rudolfs (1922) demonstrated that mosquitoes were activated by carbon dioxide when exposed to small amounts of the gas. Subsequent workers, Reeves (1951, 1953) and Brown (1951) have employed the gas successfully for attracting certain mosquito species to collecting devices. Sasa et al. (1957), Sasa and Wakasugi (1957) and Sasa (1957) demonstrated that certain species of mites and fleas are stimulated by carbon dioxide, but indicated that it was not involved in attraction. Keywords
