Abstract
An autotetraploid was raised as a result of colchicine treatment in double whorlled, pink colored variety of P. grandiflora. In C2, segregants in different proportions with regard to number of floral whorls (1.sbd. .infin.), were observed. Selfed seeds from C2 of individual type, showed further segregation in C3. This trait is controlled by multiple gene system. Pollen sterility was not significantly affected by different number of whorls, but seed setting direct correlation with number of whorls. Cynoecium and staminal transformation into petaloid structures was noted. The possible cumulative, pleotropic effects of present multiple gene system is discussed.
