Abstract
There are about 50 spp. of Eriophyid mites of economic importance in N. America. Their small size makes the development of large populations possible. They depend on winds, insects, birds and other carriers for dispersal. The 2 general types include (1) the wormlike gall mites and bud mites, and (2) the harder-bodied open leaf mites which are usually more flattened and chunky. S is usually very effective in control probably because it blocks O2 intake. These mites are subject to natural control by predaceous mites, thrips, maggots, and possibly fungi. 54 spp. are listed together with their known distr., their hosts, the type of injury caused, and the literature references. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
