Abstract
The hemarthropathy clinic at The Jefferson Medical College Hospital, organized and conducted by the combined direction of the departments of hematology and orthopaedic surgery, provides adequate material for the study of hemophilic arthropathy. Up to the present time 117 hemophiliacs are available for study. In this presentation, the roentgenological features of hemophilic arthropathy are reviewed, the gross and microscopic alterations are noted, the pathogenesis of the disorder is reconstructed, a new method of grading the severity of the arthropathy is presented, and, finally, the correction of deformities by surgical intervention is discussed. ROENTGENOLOGIC FEATURES The roentgenologic features of this disorder have been recorded by many observers. The most significant findings are the following: (1) There is increased density in the synovial and capsular tissues; (2) cystic areas are noted in the subchondral and cancellous bone; (3) in advanced cases the bone ends are broader than normal and the joint space
