Abstract
WHILE THE PRIME SOURCE of power for the Bell System communication network is alternating current purchased from utilities, almost all service is backed up by a storage battery reserve which at all times stands ready to take over the load for limited periods of time. Rarely is telephone service interrupted during periods of failure of commercial power. Keywords
