Abstract
Doublets previously found for some transitions of the Eu3+ ion in the LiNbO3 lattice, are observed to change as the Li/Nb ratio is changed. The results are used to ascertain that Eu3+ substitutes for Li+ and Nb5+ cations. Hints of some Eu3+ seated at the structural vacancy site are also found. Keywords
