Abstract
The performance of ‘unchopped’ and ‘chopped’ infrared thermometers is compared under conditions of changing ambient temperature. It is shown that the slow response of the body temperature to changing ambient conditions introduces considerable errors in the output of the early unchopped model. The unchopped sensors can be successfully corrected for effects of changing ambient temperature, provided that the sensor body temperature is continuously monitored.
