CYTOGENETICS OF SOLID STEM IN COMMON WHEAT. V. LINES OF S-615 WITH WHOLE CHROMOSOME SUBSTITUTIONS FROM APEX

Abstract
Tests of monosomic and disomic substitution lines for 16 chromosomes showed that chromosome 3B of S-615 is necessary for solid stem and 3B from Apex does not compensate for it. Chromosome 5A behaves similarly but to a lesser extent. Monosomic substitutions for 2A and 2D were as solid as S-615 but their disomics were much less solid; these chromosomes in Apex, therefore, carry recessive genes for hallowness. Other chromosomes with similar but lesser effects are 4A, 6A, and 6D. Chromosomes 1D and 5D more than compensated for the loss of homologous S-615 chromosomes, whereas 3D failed to compensate completely.
