Abstract
Elytrigia is a genus of the perennial Triticeae whose taxa have been treated very differently in morphologically and genomically based classifications. A series of studies considering morphology, anatomy, isozyme variation and field observations was undertaken to determine the biosystematic relationships among sections Caespitosae and Junceae. A classification is presented on the basis of their results and available cytogenetic data. Keys, descriptions, distributions and illustrations for the two sections are presented.
