Hydrogen transport in lithium hydride as a function of temperature

Abstract
The exchange process for the reaction between deuterium gas and lithium hydride single crystals has been studied as a function of temperature over the range 400–550°C at 380 torr. The rate of the exchange process was assumed to be diffusion controlled; thus the kinetic data were analyzed by fitting to solutions of Fick's law. A one‐dimensional model yields an activation energy range of 22.7 ± 2.8 kcal for the diffusion of deuteride ion. A three‐dimensional model gives the activation energy range as 24.3 ± 3.0 kcal .
