Abstract
In our report (Pediatrics, 36:322, 1965), we indicated that the outlook for the use of desferrioxamine in the treatment of acute iron poisoning was encouraging, but that caution needed to be exercised in the selection of the rate of administration. The evidence cited was as follows: 1. Two children with acute iron poisoning developed hypotension which could be attributed to the infusion of desferrioxamine. 2. Hypotension occurred consistently in dogs given a high intravenous dose of desferrioxamine rapidly. Keywords
