Radioiodide transport in an iodide-concentrating tumor of thyroid gland

Abstract
The accumulation of radioiodide in an iodide-concentrating tumor was measured as a function of the time interval after radioiodide injection. From the data, the one-way clearance of serum radioiodide and the fraction of the tumor radioiodide transferred to blood per minute were estimated. The ability of the iodide-concentrating tumor to maintain a radioiodide concentration elevated above that of serum was less than that of normal thyroid. The decrease seems to be related to the low one-way clearance of radioiodide by the tumor as compared with normal thyroid gland.
