Zoonotic Filarial Infection in a Four-Year-Old Child in Eastern Canada *

Abstract
Summary A larval nematode was observed in a small but dense, fibrous, subcutaneous nodule on the brow of a 4-year-old boy in New Brunswick, Canada. On the basis of its dimensions, organization, and location, it was identified as a fourth-stage female Dirofilaria. In all previous cases of zoonotic filariasis in North America the worms were found in adults and were themselves sexually mature.
