Abstract
Despite persistent allegations that abuse of nursing home residents is widespread, the topic has received only limited research attention. Data are presented from a survey of a random sample of 577 nurses and nursing aides working in long-term care facilities. Rates of abuse based on staff self-reports are presented, and subgroups of staff who are more likely to engage in abusive behaviors are identified. Keywords
