Abstract
Pi‐electron Hamiltonians are derived which contain self‐consistent screening in zeroth order, and sigma–pi coupling through second order. It is shown that the Coulomb interaction between pi electrons is modified by a frequency‐dependent inverse sigma dielectric matrix. The nature of the dielectric matrix is discussed. Keywords
