Abstract
INTESTINAL obstruction in the newborn period is not an uncommon finding and may be due to a variety of conditions. Nowhere in the literature, however, have we encountered a case of complete intestinal obstruction produced by a mesenteric cyst. The purpose of this paper is to record such a case. Report of a Case On Oct 31, 1963, a 3,408 gm (7 lb 8 oz), term female infant was born to a healthy 29-year-old mother. The pregnancy was uncomplicated and the delivery uneventful except for the presence of polyhydramnios. The initial newborn physical examination was unremarkable. At 26 hours of age, the infant began vomiting small amounts of bile stained material. At 48 hours of age, one of many examiners palpated a large midabdominal mass.
