Abstract
Leckman and colleagues1are to be commended for their 'Report Card on theNational Plan for Research on Child and Adolescent Mental Disorders." This "Report Card" was initiated by the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and has been endorsed by more than 20 national professional and advocacy organizations. Most of these organizations participated in the development of the congressionally mandated blueprint for child and adolescent research at the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), theNational Plan for Research on Child and Adolescent Mental Disorders.2Similarly, the principal authors of the Report Card are members of the original Institute of Medicine (IOM) committee that wrote the 1989 report,Research on Children With Emotional, Behavioral, and Developmental Disabilities.3Because of broad concerns about the lack of progress in child and adolescent research, NIMH commissioned this original IOM report to serve as a springboard for assessingKeywords
