Crystal structure of the oxides BaCuGd2O5 and Ba2Cu3GdO7x

Abstract
We have grown crystals of BaCuGd2 O5 and Ba2Cu3GdO7x and determined their structures by single-crystal x-ray diffraction. Green and black BaCuGd2 O5 are roughly identical. In the refinement of Ba2Cu3GdO7x a value of x=0.5 is obtained. The existence of oxygen vacancies is compatible with an incommensurable system and also with high-order superstructures.
