The Antigenicity of Protein Isolated from Bovine Serum After Brief Treatment with Alkali

Abstract
Protein isolated from bovine serum treated with 1 N NaOH for 27 hrs. at room temp. apparently is non-antigenic, as evidenced by tests including active and passive anaphylaxis, complement-fixation, and precipitin reactions. Proteins exposed to alkali as long as 8 hrs. still possess antigenic specificity which is altered by the alkali.
