On the Short Range Order in a Discotic Liquid Crystal as Reflected by its Fluorescence Properties

Abstract
The emission spectra of hexa-5-alkoxytriphenylene is studied as function of the state of aggregation, namely in low and highly concentrated solutions of the compound in cyclohexane, in the pure liquid, in the mesophase and in the crystal. Significant changes in the spectra are observed at some of the phase transitions and not in others. These changes are interpreted as a result of the different short range intermolecular interactions in the various phases.
