Abstract
Several factors influencing the activity of imidazole-containing antifungals as inhibitors of sterol C14 demethylation have been investigated in Candida spp. It has been shown that inter-species variation in the susceptibility of C14 demethylases and ability of the antifungals to penetrate the fungal cell, as well as structural variation, affect the antifungal activity of this class of compounds.
