Abstract
Collision processes of pions with deuterium have been observed in a diffusion cloud chamber. The use of positive pions rendered visible all of the possible reactions at 85 Mev. Total cross sections and angular distributions for elastic and inelastic scattering, charge exchange scattering, and absorption have been determined from 272 collisions in the deuterium gas. The results are compared with the phenomenological impulse-approximation theory. Keywords
