Abstract
Alum precipitated toxoid (3 lots prepared in different laboratories) was used to immunize 722 Schick-positive children divided into 3 groups. One 1-ml. dose was used. Potencies of the toxoids varied from 10 to 42 units per ml. The % of Schick-negative reactions resulting varied from 83 to 86% at the end of 6 mo. and showed no marked correlation with potencies of the 3 lots. Similar injections of plain toxoids or toxoid modified with 0.2% alum (71/2-81/2 units per ml.) produced only 57-61% immunity after 12 mo. in 3 groups comprising 838 originally Schick-positive reactors. Local and general reactions were more frequent with the preparations of higher potency. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
