Abstract
The Mediterranean fruit fly, Ceratitis capitata (Wiedemann), or medfly, has diurnal mating habits (Myburgh 1962) with the males emitting a distinctive odor that attracts females (Féron 1959). Since olfaction is an important sensory stimulus to mating, and since olfactory receptors are usually associated with the antennae, we determined the effect of excision of the antennae on the mating behavior of the Mediterranean fruit fly in the laboratory. Keywords
