Abstract
By the introduction of a chemical potential for an absolutely conserved fermion quantum number, we determine the onset of a phase transition in a general renormalizable, finite-temperature field theory with spontaneously broken symmetries. We also briefly investigate the possible physical existence of such a phase transition in black holes and in the early universe. Keywords
