SMALL INTESTINAL INTUSSUSCEPTION: AN EASILY MISUNDERSTOOD SIGN

Abstract
The roentgenographic diagnosis of small intestinal intussusception is usually associated with a "coil spring" appearance plus a narrow central channel. However, if the invagination already is established and fixed on arrival of the contrast medium, only the central channel is visible, giving an almost equally characteristic appearance. This appearance, if persistent, may introduce a note of urgency since vascular insufficiency may be impending.
