Abstract
Diseases are a major constraint in barley (Hordeum vulgare) production in eastern Canada. Root rot, caused by Cochliobolus sativus (Bipolaris sorokiniana), has been reported to be reduced by early planting. Yield losses in 2 cultivars were not generally reduced by early planting (late April-early May) in a 2 yr trial.
