Abstract
Streptomyces griseus genomic DNA codes for two different streptomycin phosphotransferases. Both genes confer streptomycin resistance to their host. A cloned DNA fragment containing one of the two resistance determinants overlaps with another cloned segment of S. griseus genomic DNA, complementing 1 out of 3 classes of streptomycin-idiotrophic mutants. This demonstrates physical linkage of resistance and biosynthetic genes involved in streptomycin biogenesis in the genome of S. griseus. Keywords
