Abstract
It has been suggested that this phenomenon might be due to an atypical inflammatory response conditioned by a qualitative defect of leukocyte function in ulcerative colitis. Study of inflammatory basophilia in patients indicates that it may occur in other diseases as well, and probably represents a delayed hyper-sensitivity to diphtheria toxoid or atoxic diphtherial proteins, rather than a new type of hypersensitivity. This publication has 13 references indexed in Scilit:
