MATHEMATICAL MODELLING OF HEAT EXCHANGERS

Abstract
A survey of the current heat exchanger design methods is made along with an investigation of the effects of flow maldistribution in their performance. In this way the need for knowledge of the detailed flowfield is revealed, and the value of the design methods that use Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) techniques is stressed. Finally, an application of such a CFD-based method is presented, using the program HERCULES that has been developed in the Computational Fluid Dynamics Unit of the National Technical University of Athens.
