Abstract
It has recently been shown that iron deficiency may be remedied entirely by giving a single continuous intravenous infusion of iron-dextran (Imferon - Benger), the calculated dose being given as a 5% v/v solution in 5% glucose or perhaps better in 0.5 to 0.9% saline solution1–4. The manufacturer claims that this method is “in most cases far superior to whole blood transfusion, oral iron or injection”.
