Abstract
Presentation of Case First admission. A 46-year-old man was admitted to the hospital because of a question of pericarditis.There was a 17-year history of diabetes mellitus, treated in recent years with acetohexamide. The patient had taken hydrochlorothiazide and triamterene for many years because of hypertension. He was a business executive. Two years before admission he was reported to have a small myocardial infarct, although two subsequent stress tests gave normal results. Three months before entry he had a five-day illness characterized by fever, chills, cough, and arthralgia, which subsided spontaneously. One month later fever recurred, and he was admitted . . .
