Abstract
Dicyclopentadienyl lanthanide chlorides (Ln = Gd, Dy, Ho, Er, Yb, Lu) react with 2,2′-bipyridyl in tetrahydrofuran at room temperature to give 2,2′-bipyridyl complexes. Elemental analyses indicate that when the molar ratios of chlorides to 2,2′-bipyridyl in the starting material vary from 1:1 to 1:0.5, 1:2 and 1:4, the molar ratio of the two components in the complexes formed remains 1:1. Both the infrared spectra and X-ray photoelectron spectra (XPS) of the products demonstrate that complexation occurs.Keywords
