Abstract
All proton coupling constants in the e.s.r. spectrum of the Banfield and Kenyon radical (the nitroxide formed on oxidation of the condsensation product of phenylhydroxylamine and acetone) have been evaluated and assigned. The smallest splittings, aH–0.34 (3H) and +0.41 G (2 H), the subject of previous dispute, are attributed to two sets of β-protons. Several new analogues of the Banfield and Kenyon radical were prepared for comparison.Keywords
