Abstract

The identification of 6-methyl-5-hepten-2-one in an Iridomyrmex sp. from Florida is reported. The compound 6-methyl-5-hepten-2-ol, which has not previously been reported from formicid exocrine secretions, was also discovered. The significance of these findings with respect to the taxonomy of North American Iridomyrmex is discussed.
