Allergy of Middle and Inner Ear

Abstract
It is the purpose of this paper to present some otologic problems caused or complicated by allergy. In this presentation the term allergy is used to describe either an antigen-antibody reaction or an autonomic dysfunction. This study was stimulated by an effort to find the etiology of serous otitis media. During this study several additional otologic conditions complicated by allergy came to light. There has been and still remains considerable confusion regarding the different types of middle ear fluid; in this presentation the term serous otitis media will be used to indicate that the fluid in the middle ear is a transudate. During this study routine nasal smears were done at each visit on approximately 164 patients.
