Abstract
Once nearly vanquished by antibiotics, at least in the developed world, tuberculosis resurged in the late 1980s and now kills more than 2 million people a year--second only to AIDS among infectious diseases. Especially frightening is the emergence of drug-resistant strains, although global trends have been unknown. Now, in its most comprehensive report to date, the World Health Organization has concluded that drug-resistant TB is rampant and appears to be spreading. Keywords
