Abstract
The urinary excretion of estriol, estrone, estradiol, 17-KS (ketosteroids), 17-KGS (ketogenic steroids), pregnanediol, and pregnanetroil was studied in prepubertal boys, pubertal boys with and without gynecomastia, and post-pubertal boys. The excretion of 17-KS and 17-KGS increased with increasing age and maturity. Estrogen excretion, however, remained at a low level until full maturity was attained and gynecomastia, where present, had regressed. It is concluded that gynecomastia of puberty is not associated with an increased concentration of estrogens, but is associated with the increased secretion of putuitary hormones. Keywords
