Abstract
An electric field deforming a nematic slab becomes inhomogeneous because of dielectric or conductive anisotropy. An investigation of the latter regime indicates that the Fréedericksz transition first becomes steeper and finally gives way to hysteresis as the conductive anisotropy is increased. Keywords
