The Insulin Independence of Uterine Glycogen in the Rat

Abstract
The effect of insulin, glucosefeeding and the combination of the two on the concentration of glycogen was determined in tissue samples of the uterus, the liver, skeletal muscle and the heart from ovariectomized and estrogen-treated ovariectomized rats. The values for uterine glycogen fell into two classes, depending only on whether or not the animals had received estrogen. Since the glucose level of the blood and the glycogen content of the liver, skeletal muscle and the heart were variously modified in these animals, it is evident that the concentration of glycogen in the uterus is independent of action upon this organ by insulin.
