Abstract
The results of a randomized study comparing Xe arc and Ar laser photocoagulation in the treatment of proliferative diabetic retinopathy [in humans] are presented. When used as described here, there is no significant difference between the effect of the 2 treatments on optic disc neovascularization and visual acuity. The results of peripheral retinal ablation are compared with those of panphotocoagulation in the Ar and Xe groups. Apparently, in some patients peripheral treatment may be sufficient to cause regression of disc neovascularization. This publication has 15 references indexed in Scilit:
